She sat down, pulled out her phone, and showed us our company facebook (we gathered 180 likes today -- feels fucking weird to use "like" as a metric) and said "so, you're going to [event]...". Hinted at wanting to be involved; we denied her. Offered my friend a position on the board of her nonprofit; he said no. Asked me if there would be a conflict with my positions; I said it would enhance mine by being able to give my clients more. We tried flattery anyway by saying we're going to have a film setup there (our dentist's brother does PBS film work) and that we wanted to interview her because she doesn't get the recognition she deserves. She saw right through and gave the smile that said so but took it anyway. It all went well. Although she still seems bitter, she kind of gave her acceptance and approval.
