What? We are talking about a job that gives you more time off than most any profession in existence in the US. I have NEVER met a teacher that had a problem getting maternity leave?? I have met several though that took maternity leave and then afterward came back for a couple of days before resigning! It's a joke. There are certainly industries where I think unions are important. Work in a coal mine? -I think there should be a union looking out for your safety/health and compensatory concerns. If you are a great teacher, guess what?... all of the parents are going to know. They are all going to try and get little Johnny or Jennifer in your classroom and guess what? You are going to get paid the same exact amount as Old man Burnett. Guess what else, studies have shown that if you ask a group of parents to name the best and the worst teachers in a school there is very little deviation and almost unanimous agreement who is at the top and bottom. But this info can never be acted upon because of unions. They need to go.

Get the unions out of the way and see how accountability and pay for performance increases the education our children receive.
