In the last two years, I’ve become obsessed with Tennis. I’m captaining a USTA spring team. Self ranked 3.0 but I think I’m probably a 3.5. I’ve never enjoyed a sport more. I wish I would have discovered it when I was younger. Why do I like it? You have to be fully present to play well. You cannot be distracted, you are in the moment. It is intense physical activity, great exercise. It’s like you are boxing the guy across the net. Trading blows, you can be defensive minded or offensive. You can turn defense into offense. There is strategy involved both longterm and in each point. I’m not a huge fan of doubles, I prefer singles. I like knowing that I control the outcome completely. I like the challenge, both mentally and physically.
Strengths in my game: I have a strong first serve. I can place it decently well. I have a fast flat serve and a decent slice serve too. I have a good top spin forehand and a nice drop shot/lob. These things work well in conjunction for me.
Weakness in game: My second serve sucks. Basically a giant watermelon that anyone can beat up on. I need to get better at placing volleys. Would love to add serve and volley to my arsenal.
But the thing that has changed my tennis, the most is this video teaching the, “four rooms method.“
I bet it’s applicable to many sports or even many life situations.
When utilized properly, it allows me to be present, focused and have a plan I can execute. Highly recommend.
What about you? Where are you in your tennis journey? Interested in starting? New and improving? Or… I’m a badass! I want to hear from you. Any tips on things that work well for you? If you’ve not played and have interest, do you have any questions?
My dream would be a Hubski tennis meetup. wasoxygen b_b mk - Let’s make this happen! I’ll host in NC. We have great clay courts.
If you don’t play, what are you waiting for? Also, tennis players live longer. LFG! 🎾
