I'm interested in why you think that. It seemed solid to me.

I love being proved incorrect!

There are people in this world that literally consider me subhuman. They are doing their best to eradicate me and my kind. This isn't minor, this is systemic and a dominant view in society today, and I'm not the only minority that's a target of things like that.

I'm not going to "protect and respect" those who seek to destroy me. I'm doing my best to destroy them.

Andrew WK is acting like there is room for me to come to an understanding with people like that, and agree to disagree. I'm sorry, but no. I don't get a choice. I either fight or die.

I'm trans, so I understand (in my own way) where you're coming from with this, though I don't agree with your later comment on destruction. I think you've broached the point where this argument breaks down - groups.

I'm Canadian, doing my grad degree in the US. My dad, who routinely travels in the US and has many american friends, essentially remarked that mob mentality is especially strong down here (in positive and negative ways). I've had similar experience, in that speaking to one friend about a contentious topic - foreign policy, say - i can have a real discussion with a human being. if there's more than three americans and me, it's better to not even talk about it. They will become a unified block of opinion - the "correct" opinion. They are all trying to prove how american they are to each other.

I think AWK is wrong to extend this argument past one-on-one. There are, of course, always outliers - people who cannot, or refuse to be reasoned with. But it is helpful to remember that these people are an extreme minority - they just happen to have a loud voice.

You seem really angry minimum_wage. Normally i see your content here and impressed with your eloquence and insight. what I see in this comment is a lot of rage and hate. I hope that whatever is causing that rage right now will improve, even if the systematic problem that you face may take a long time to change.

I'm sorry that this post lead you to unfollow me, but I suppose that's your perogative.
