Democracy and its discontents. Magadh, on the National Socialist Underground, and its impact on German politics. Monday, in Souciant
Small, extremist political parties are a problem in just about every country. Some of them become popular, some do not. One of the biggest problems with them is that their policies and ideas tend to attract violent individuals, which makes them dangerous. Fortunately for Germany it has weathered the last few years better than the rest of Europe, and hasn't had to deal with popular movements, but I can understand their wanting to ban this party.
How about denazification of Austria? Or Croatia? Or Russia, which has more nazis than Germany. It seems that former eastern European states have had a poor way of stamping out fascism. And what of the USA or Israel? (which have real fascist parties) With de disappearance of WWII survivors our memories and warnings from the past grow very dim. Populist parties surge to great heights throughout Europe, riding the wave of the global crisis.
