Agreed (thus not tagged #art). The overall context was a bunch of historic photographs that were colorized which I am keeping a secret :))

Good call on the tag. If one wants to colorize photos to show how awesome their software is, then they should pick old family portraits or candid shots, not deface a 20th c. icon.

Actually you motivated me to do some digging and it turns out it is an "artist" who is producing all this. So scratch #computing, as well, I suppose.

But she really did a fine job here with the flames, I think: http://Mygrapefruit.deviantart.com/art/In-Colour-The-Burning... - #craft?

She does a fine job; that's certainly not my problem with them. One can colorize any photo. Or recolor any photo that's already in color, which might actually be more interesting, because it would be an alternate take on reality, rather than ascribing one's vision of what the scene might have looked like. By doing this, its as if she is trying to help us imagine the scene and is therefore showing us what we've been missing all these years. Or perhaps she just chose these iconic images because they are public domain and she knows they would generate interest; good or bad, attention is all most artists can hope for.
