I'd like to know this as well, I don't think I'll ever record myself playing, but it's something I've often wondered. What kind of acoustic do you use, and how do your record it? Acoustic guitars are so difficult to record faithfully (at least from a layperson's perspective?)
ghostoffuffle -I play a 1978 Gibson J50 acoustic and I record it with an Audio Technica condensor mic about 4 inches away. Relatively hot with some substantial reverb but little EQing. That electric guitar sound you asked about is my Tele through a Little Big Muff direct in to my protools box. Why direct? Cause late night recording with an amp wakes everyone up :( Thanks for listening. Be sure to stock up on some canned goods fuffle, you have a family now dammit! Also, this morning jonaswildman sent me a clip of drums/guitar etc that he has put on this one. Holy shit! It's awesome, I'm excited for him to complete it so we can share it. The guys a monster.
That's me grunting obscenely at your gear. Some day I hope to both afford and deserve a nice acoustic.
When I think about it, that acoustic is the most expensive thing I've ever purchased. How is that? Well, it was my gift from my father-in-law for marrying his daughter. Marrying his daughter wasn't cheap… The guitar was her mothers. Her mother unfortunately passed away when my wife was just 12 years old. -it's a prized possession of mine and I hope to one day leave it to one of my children. And yes, my father-in-law is awesome!
Don't know what to say to that- too many emotional undertones in those two paragraphs. Incredible, though. Hope that guitar keeps on picking up family history, what an amazing gift to give to everybody.
Oh, I really can't wait to hear that! And thanks for the info :)
