There is a quotation that says "I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness." What he actually said was "Yes, if you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice; say that I was a drum major for peace; I was a drum major for righteousness. And all of the other shallow things will not matter." The difference in the two, obviously, is humility, which the former conspicuously lacks. It prompted Maya Angelou to say that MLK comes off as an arrogant twit.

The architect said that it was done for space considerations. Because of the rancorous controversy, the National Parks Service has since decided to remove the paraphrased quote and replace it with the actual one, apparently much to the architect's protest.

    Great town

I agree. I love DC, even though it seems to often embody so many negatives that go along with politics. Touristing it is amazing, given they have so much, and we all pay for it with our tax dollars, so it can all be seen at no charge. I don't think enough people know this. There aren't many places you can just walk in and out of some of the best art and history museums in the world at your leisure. If I ever have a family, I will take my kids regularly.

You're right, not enough people realize that the museums, monuments etc are free. Strike that, they're not free but rather that we paid for them with our tax dollars and thus don't have to pay to get in. -I think it's great. The National Gallery is fantastic. The Air and Space museum... soooo cool. My brother lives there and although I'm sure he gets tired of being the tour guide year after year, he does it well.
