There is causative evidence to suggest the rise and fall of crime in the 20th century is directly linked to lead in consumer products, especially gasoline.

Everything else is correlative and speculative, including the hypotheses that more police or more incarceration decrease crime.

I totally agree. I shared not for the somewhat shady defense of conservatism but for those parts of the article which relate directly to the title (I.e. the assertions that conservatism need not end with mere rejection of government).

I agree, one unfounded assumption doesn't make the whole article bad. I pointed it out because the presentation of arbitrary belief as a fact is a pet peeve. The author probably isn't even aware his intuition is speculative.
