One parish in Louisiana has had enough with sagging pants. They put a law in place to stop the fashion trend.
What? That's purely opinion and shouldn't be used to support a law restricting how one wears their pants. Some people might think it looks better to have your pants pulled all the way up, some people might think it looks better to have them sag, some people might think everyone looks better with no pants. I mean, I personally think guys wearing sleeveless shirts that are split down the sides to the point where the front and back of the shirt are barely attached look ridiculous, but that doesn't mean a law should be put in place requiring all men to wear flannel.Pros
Better Appearance
Your freedom of expression may now be gone, but your appearance will be better. You may not like the idea of being forced to wear your pants at your waistline as it will give people a better look for you, but this will not hurt.
Can we also acknowledge the racial implications of this law (and the article)? Under pros we have listed: This is fucking awful. For sake of comparison, that would be like banning skirts that cut off above the knee so we can live in a world, "Without people making or thinking sexual comments about women." Also, How the fuck do you "agree with" sagging? Do I disagree with brotanks? Actually, I'd like to go off on a tangent here. I could actually see a potential argument about sagging being linked to micro-cultures within jails, and about not sagging because we don't want to glorify that lifestyle (I wouldn't agree with said argument, and it definitely is flawed, but it's better than "I don't think it looks good!"), but even then, you're typecasting every person you come across based on that one visual indicator. If I were to say we should ban Sperry's and blue OCBD's because I think rape culture within fraternities is terrible, and that dressing preppy is just one way to mimic this subgroup, you'd laugh at me. I don't see why this should be any different with sagging. Just because someone wears their pants low doesn't mean they're a criminal, a bad person, or even someone you should avoid.No Sterotypes
With an better appearance the general public will have a better opinion of you. Most people that sag their pants are commonly mistaken as criminals. Now young men can walk in public without people making or thinking stereotypical comments about them.
I personally do not agree with sagging, but we have the right to choose how we express ourselves through fashion.
Yeah, the racial implications seem like a given in this, pretty much targeted towards minorities, and also a bit of a class issue as well. Regarding the tangent, it reminds me of my high school where I wasn't allowed to wear a pink bandana tied around my wrist because that could be seen as indicating I was part of a gang. In a rural, farm-town school where the only "gang" in 100 mile radius were three kids who rode bicycles and black clothing.
