His website: click here is really comprehensive and paints a pretty clear picture of what has led us to where we are at. As far as I recall, there has only been one mainstream politician and presidential contender that has really made inequality and the plight of the poor in the US their central theme to their candidacy and that, unfortunately, was John Edwards. Obviously that didn't go anywhere.
