Sad, I know. Had to post it anyway. Consider it just an early reminder for the deciduous insanity to come.

Better late than never. Snapped this pic today with the kid:

She was a little concerned about the height.

gorgeous...I see you are getting a little spring in your trees. Of course you are 1280 km almost directly south of here. Would you say I was 5 minutes of longitude further west?

Toronto: 79.4042° W Durham: 78.8989° W

Not 5', actually more like 30'. The numbers you report are in decimal. There are 60' in a degree. So 0.5º is equal to 30'. Sorry to be nitpicky, but it seemed like you were asking.

Thanks! I absolutely WAS asking. I was looking at those numbers and wondering how to describe my location in relation to thenewgreen's. So half a degree = 30 minutes. Got it. How far further west is that? Given that a degree of longitude is zero at the pole and about 69 at the equator, I can only say that if I were to fly south, I'd have to make perhaps a minor adjustments in order to land on tng's tree.

The difference between flying straight south and flying 0.5º east of south is negligible when you're already going 1280km. If you were to go straight south for that distance, you would be ~11km off by the time you got there, by my back-of-the-napkin calc. But if you were make the adjustment before your trip, you would only add roughly 0.05km, a rounding error.

metaphorically, I feel kind of due north (as the Canada goose flies) of tng, in so many ways. sigh.

This is an appropriate conversation today, because (according to the Google doodle) its Euler's birthday. Hooray for geometry!

Yes, spring has sprung. My car was covered in yellow pollen this weekend. My screened in porch was also covered. But I'll trade sweeping pollen for shoveling snow any day.

In preparation, I think I might climb a tree every day. You know, to hone in on my skills.
